With its Federal Advisory Board, Isilon has assembled a hands-on working group of recently retired federal leaders who have experience across all branches of the military and more than 125 years of combined service to the United States Government. The Federal Advisory Board is dedicated to helping Isilon better understand the needs of key Federal agencies tasked with safeguarding our national interests and overseeing the security and defense of the nation. Using Isilon technology, Federal agencies can attain their missions more effectively by having reliable, fast, shared access to their digital content at a much lower cost.

William W. Crouch, General, United States Army (Ret.)
General Crouch’s career spans 36 years during which he commanded a platoon, several companies (two of which were in combat), an armored cavalry squadron, the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized). His Army career culminated in his appointment as the U.S. Army’s 27th Vice Chief of Staff, where he was responsible for the one million person Army and managed a $64B budget. He served as Commanding General-Eighth Army and Chief of Staff, United Nations Command and U.S. forces, Korea. As Commander in Chief, United States Army, Europe and Seventh Army, he served concurrent duty as Commander, Allied Land Forces Europe (LANDCENT) and Commander, NATO Peace Implementation (later Stabilization) Force, Bosnia, Herzegovina. General Crouch’s awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.
Since retiring from the Army, General Crouch has served as one of five generals who oversee the Army’s Battle Command Training Program, or BCTP. The program involves training large organizations, including divisions and corps, for their wartime and peacekeeping missions. Additionally, he is a Senior Fellow with the National War College Capstone Program and is associated with the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.
General Crouch graduated from Claremont McKenna College and holds a master’s degree in history from Texas Christian University. He is also a graduate of the Army War College and attended the Foreign Service Institute of Washington.
Richard D. Hearney, General, United States Marine Corps (Ret.)
General Hearney was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in 1962 and retired in 1996 as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. A highly decorated veteran during his 35 years of service, General Hearney held command positions at the squadron, air group and air wing levels. During Desert Shield and Desert Storm he served as Deputy Commander, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. He also held numerous senior staff assignments, including Deputy Director for Operations, U.S. European Command and Deputy Chief of Staff for Requirements, Programs and Aviation, Headquarters Marine Corps. His personal decorations and medals include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with gold star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” Purple Heart, the Air Medal with Combat “V” and bronze numeral “30″ and the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”.
Since retiring from the Marine Corps, General Hearney served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Business Executives for National Security (BENS), a national, nonpartisan organization of business leaders. Until 1999, General Hearney was Vice President of the Military Aircraft and Missile Systems Group for the Boeing Company. He is currently the founder of RDM Strategies, a private firm focused on helping innovative companies apply their technologies to protecting our homeland.
He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree from Pepperdine University. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.
Leslie F. Kenne, Lieutenant General, United States Air Force (Ret.)
Lieutenant General Kenne spent 32 years in the United States Air Force in the areas of test and evaluation, aircraft development, and electronic and communication systems acquisition. She directed three major programs during her career — the Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared System for Night (LANTIRN), the F-16 and the Joint Strike Fighter.
She oversaw a budget of $25 billion and an aircraft fleet of 3,000 F-16 aircraft and was responsible for financial planning, budgeting and repair of F-111 and A-10 aircraft, radio and air traffic control systems. In 1997 she was appointed Director of the Joint Strike Fighter program, the Department of Defense’s largest acquisition program with a budget of $30 billion.
Lt. General Kenne also served as Commander of the Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, where she was responsible for the acquisition of the command, control and computer systems for the Air Force. She has also held various Pentagon staff positions including Deputy Director in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition and, immediately prior to retirement, Deputy Chief of Staff for Warfighting Integration. In this last position she was responsible for policy and strategies to ensure the Air Force’s electronic network and surveillance systems were integrated into a seamless, networked flow of information to warfighters. Lt. General Kenne’s major decorations include the Defense and Air Force Distinguished Service Medals, the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Since retiring from the Air Force in September 2003, Lt. General Keene has served on the boards of EDO Corporation and Harris Corporation and is currently President of LK Associates, an independent consulting firm.
Lt. General Kenne received a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University. She was later awarded a master’s degree in Procurement Management from Webster College in St. Louis. She also has attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, and the National War College at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.
George R. Sterner, Vice Admiral, United States Navy (Ret.)
Vice Admiral Sterner’s career began in 1962 when he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He served tours aboard six nuclear submarines during his career, including taking command of the attack submarine USS Sturgeon (SSN 637) and the Trident submarine USS Florida (SSBN 728). Among other shore assignments, Vice Admiral Sterner served on the staff of the Commander in Chief, United States Atlantic Fleet, as Branch Head for submarine tactical weapons on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, as Program Manager for the Mark 48 Advanced Capability Torpedo, and as Program Executive Officer for Submarine Combat and Weapons Systems.
During his distinguished career, Vice Admiral Sterner played a significant role in reshaping the way the Navy develops, acquires, modernizes and maintains its ships and systems. As Commander of Naval Sea Systems Command, he managed an annual budget of approximately $14 billion, and as a testament to his dynamic leadership the National Performance Review honored him and his command with 27 Hammer Awards. Admiral Sterner’s decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with three gold stars, the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars and the Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star.
After retiring from the Navy in 1998, Admiral Sterner worked for Walt Disney Imagineering as Vice President for System Integration where he directed technical aspects and delivery preparations for Disney’s second cruise ship, the MS Disney Wonder. He is currently Vice President of Strategic Pursuits for Raytheon.
Admiral Sterner earned a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering from Pennsylvania State University, a master of science in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School, and attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
